From Fluidride Team Rider: Anka Martin
As I am writing this, I am struggling to stay awake after having ridden many miles in 40+ (102) degree heat on the one day and sweating buckets in monsoon style rain and humidity the next. We rode some of the finest singletrack in South Africa in Jonkershoek, Stellenbosch on Sunday and in Grabouw on Saturday. The South Easter wind has been howling everyday, and it has just gradually been getting hotter and hotter, yesterday being the hottest day I think I have ever ridden my bike in. The weather has been very strange this year, not normal at all, and not cooling down at all. I woke up to pouring rain, which was a pleasant welcome after Saturday’s scorcher.
As we were halfway up our climb, the heavens opened up, thundering clouds pulled in and massive raindrops just drenched us to the bone. It was so amazing, it felt like we were in some Borneo rainforest, exploring new terrain with squishy shoes and chamois. We were filthy from the mud, rain and sweat, but so happy that it was a bit cooler (did I say that?) and I was pretty stoked, because I knew I had a rest day coming up after a hard week of riding.
