Congratulations go out to Fluidride/Virtual Descent rider Nathan Riddle, who overcame incredible diversity to ride to third place in the Super D at Downieville last weekend. Ride the track with Nathan. Nathan had an unfortunate fall on Mark Weirs pumptrack the weekend of Sea Otter and was in a cast from April until the day before the big race at Downieville. When I spoke to Nathan on the Thursday before the race, he was hurrying from the doctors office where his cast had been removed, to the x-ray technician to ensure his break was fully healed. At that time, he said it was a struggle to touch his thumb to his index finger, after three months of non movement and atrophy. Somehow Nathan got his cast off, got his x-rays, and hit the road for Downy all in the same day. I’m not sure how Nathan managed to hang on during his ride down the mountain, but he did, and ended up in an incredible third place, just ahead of Icons Myles Rockwell and Brian Lopes. The top five in the dh looked like this. Nathan will post an account of his trip soon. In the meantime be sure to take a ride down the mountain with him during a near world record training run.
1) Ross Schnell
2) Jason Moeschler
3) Nathan Riddle
4) Myles Rockwell
5) Brian Lopes
