You know fall is just around the corner when cross season starts up in the NW. I had the chance to get to the season opener this morning for the ASC Labor Day Cyclocross Championships at South Seatac Park. Unlike years past when riders battled a dusty course, recent rains made the track tacky and fast and made the singletrack in the park even more exciting than usual. For those of you who haven’t raced cross, and think it may be boring, think again. Imagine riding a hopped up road bike on NW trails as fast as you can in a large group for just over 30 minutes, and that’s cross; fast paced, high energy, and exciting from start to finish. Racing cross in Seattle is also downright convenient. I got up at 7am this morning, rolled into South Seatac to sign up at 8, raced at 9, and was home eating breakfast by 10am; when was the last time you went racing, and it only took a few hours round trip? For $20.00 it was a great time and a huge workout.
