Well, I’d have to say that this was one of the most competitive “grassroots” races I’ve ever attended.
(Ride the course with Griz from Decline)
The weekend of racing started with the dual slalom on Saturday. The men’s pro division saw a repeat of round one, with Fluidride/Virtual Descent riders Lars Sternberg and Casey Northern taking the top two spots. Ethan Mutoli (Rotec) and Ben Storar (Cannondale) rounded out the top four. Leanna Gerrard (Cannondale) took top honors in the womens division, besting Katie Holden (Katieholden.com) for the top tier of the podium. Continue reading ‘Fluidride Cup #2 “Justice Served”/Results’
Another year of the Sea Otter has come and gone. Greg Minnar made quite a showing, winning both the dual slalom and the downhill in impressive fashion. Three Fluidride/Virtual Descent racers made it to Monterey to test their fitness against the worlds best (Headcam footage). Continue reading ‘Sea Otter 2008′
Hello fellow racers! After a bit of deliberation we have decided to move the second FR Cup race to Port Angeles where the first race was held. There is still about 4-7 feet of snow on the lower course at Mt Hood, and much more at the actual resort where we normally race there (Ski Bowl). So…bring your dh bike and your slalom rig, and get ready for another round of fun May 10th and 11th. We are currently trying to work out putting on a racing clinic the weekend prior to the race (May 3rd and 4th - waiting on approval from the land managers). Stay tuned for more on that. We broke the record for attendance for a regional nw gravity event last time; let’s do it again! Tell your freinds to come out and ride! Looking forward to seeing you all again soon.
Eric Carter and Andrew Neething travelled to Reunion Island off the coast of South Africa last fall for the final round of the Mega Avalanche Series. Their mechanic John Canepa did some nice filming and a great interviews with the riders. Check out pro insights into some of the toughest gravity racing on the planet at virtual descent. Special thanks go out to Eric, Andrew, John, and to Sven Martin for getting the camera in their hands. The piece is edited by Mark Brent of Bones Over Metal.
The weekend of the first Fluidride Cup race is fast approaching and Fluidride Riders Lars Sternberg and Casey Northern have been working around the clock to get things dialed for the throngs of racers expected to show up this weekend. The two, with the help of the Port Angeles and greater NW riding community, have put together an amazing dual slalom track to compliment the great DH tracks in store for riders. Check out the slalom course to see what it looks like when Lars and Casey aren’t holding shovels at virtual descent.
Simon’s B-Day Ride Down Syncline:
We have just posted a video of my birthday ride down Syncline from Last year. My 39th birthday started with some runs down the dog river trail near Hood River. From there, we drove into Hood River and shuttled up to the tippy top of Post Canyon for a ride back to town. To cap the day off, we crossed the river into Washington and did a sunset run down Syncline. It was Lars’ first time down the trail, and only my second, having descended it once five years earlier. Mother nature came bearing gifts, in the form of a great Owl sighting, a crazy fast rabbit, and an incredible sunset. Thanks for a great birthday go out to Mountain Man David Murphy, and my brother Tom, and of course to Lars for capturing it all! Check it out at Virtual Descent. I’m going to think of how I can top that one for the impending 40th!
It’s been a few years since I’ve ventured into Capitol Forest, and I have to say my most recent visit left me wondering why it had taken so long to get myself back to this magical playground of endless singletrack. Since my last visit, the Friends of Capitol Forest have been hard at work creating hundreds of berms and jumps, and have greatly improved drainage of the trail system. The trails, much like the race organization were dialed to day the least.

Fluidride will be offering free espresso at our Issaquah location on weekends until noon starting on March 15th. We’ll also be hosting group rides on select weekends with the first on Saturday March 15 at 10am. Riders are invited to ride the Grand Ridge Loop with us, which is about a two hour ride. The ride will start on the trail across the street from our shop and climb up through Issaquah with a descent down the Grand Ridge trail back to town. This is a great intermediate level ride with some sweet single track. Zeb will be leading the ride, and will depart with the group at 10:30am. We have lots of great power snacks at the shop, so all you need to do is show up with your bike. There are tons of great rides in the Issaquah area which we will be exploring as the season progresses. Hope to see you Saturday!
