We just finished up with a five day camp with the International Community School in Kirkland Washington. We were super stoked to get the Lake Washington School Districts’ approval to take 33 lucky 7th-12th graders out to Port Angeles for a week of shredding the Dry Hill trail system. Can you imagine getting to go downhill riding during school time? I can’t, and think even the kids were in a bit of shock about what they were able to experience of the course of this incredible week together.

All the students left the camp as legitimate gravity riders after paying their necessary dues to the gravity gods on Dry Hill. A big thanks goes out to Tyler Crow of Green Crow Lumber Company and to Wayne Fitzwater of the DNR, who not only gave us permission to use the land, but also took the time to come to speak to the group about recreational opportunities on DNR lands. The talk was very interesting, and I know that we all learned a lot about how agencies like the DNR can work with groups to enhance recreational opportunities for all.

One of the coolest things about the week was that two of our instructors for the camp (Katie Holden and Jack Montgomery), were graduates of the same camp with the ICS in 2002, and have gone on to become pro riders since their start in the sport with Fluidride. It was really great to see Katie and Jack on the other side of the class working along side the rest of the Fluidride crew as peers. Check out some of the video from the camp HERE. More to be posted soon!
