Our trip to Honduras has been surreal in many ways, but one thing is for sure, the riding and the people are great! The DH Camp went really well, with riders attending from Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala. Check out a few of the photos…we have lots more to come!!

All the riders in the camp were amazing, but I was especially blown away by the speed of 14 year old El Salvadorian rider Mariana Salazar, who races with the boys in Central America. A couple of times she caught me off guard and pulled away. Mariana just needs to work on her technical and steep riding skills and she’ll be in the mix with any of the women in the world with time. Crazy!! Check it out…

Marvin Garcia is a pinner! He rallies and old Azonic DH bike, and keeps up with pretty much everyone in Honduras. He’s usually in the top few at Central American races. His left turns were a lot stronger than his right turns, so we worked on bringing both sides up to speed. Check it out!!

Luis Casco was pretty much the class clown, keeping us all laughing. He’s not a racer, doesn’t want to race, but just has a great time in general. He had us over for dinner at his house one of the nights where his wife cooked us the most incredible dinner. The tangerine and candied almond salad was particularly off the hook. Big thanks to Luis and his family for making us feel at home so far from Seattle!

Diego Villalta is a 17yr old from El Salvador who loves to ride his bike. He’s very humble and nice. I really enjoyed my time working with him. Some improvements he could make in his riding include keeping his head up more and rolling his shoulders back, which will take him off his toes and more onto his heels. I’m looking forward to riding with Diego again on our next trip to see his improvements!

DH CAMP IS NOW FULL!

Fluidride is making the trip south to Honduras in March of 2010! We’ll be riding scouted and selected trails in the Valle de Angeles (Valley of Angels) – an old mining town 25 minutes from the Capital City of Tegucigalpa. There is even a hand built trail with jumps, drops, step downs, and other modern trail features. There are many trails in this area. In addition to riding the trails, we’ll be working on building riders skills at each of the camps. Check out the attached info to see what will be covered in each camp.

EACH CAMP IS LIMITED TO 15 RIDERS – REGISTER NOW TO RESERVE YOUR SPOT!

The All Mountain/XC Camp has only 5 spots left. Register now to be sure you have a place in the camp! For DH riders looking to learn who didn’t get into the DH camp, we’ll be covering a lot of the same information in the XC camp. Being a strong rider on one bike will transfer to your other bikes. Feel free to hit me up with any questions.

Cancellation Policy: Rider money is 100% refundable up until 7 days prior the start of their camp. Riders canceling within 7 days of their camp will receive a $250 refund. Riders may transfer (sell) their spot to another rider at any time by contacting Fluidride and making us aware of the change.

Feel free to contact me with any questions at simon@fluidride.com.

These camps are open to all riders from all countries. The camps will be taught in English by Simon Lawton.

Testimonials

Simon, this is a late thanks to you and Lars for the June 26th class.  The class is something that I have needed to learn from for years. I have now lost my fear (but my wife has a new one) at south Sea-tac park.  My expectations from your class were met, and I am enjoying riding my long travel bike more than ever.

-Sherman

I wanted to thank you again for the camp.  It was fantastic– I had a lot of fun, and I learned a lot.  It’ll take some time to get all the pieces together, and I’m gonna have to work my ass off for quite a while to get to where I want to be, but it’s gonna be fun work, and well worth it.  I’m sure I’ll be hitting you up again after I spend some time practicing.

-Dave

Thanks again for a great clinic. I did the race in Leavenworth last Saturday – it was hot but more importantly it had a big drop into a creek that I did. I can’t say I did it “racerstyle” but I did it. Next year – racerstyle. – Megan

Hello, I was just wondering if Simon and Brian are going to be back at Pedrosfest this year ? Seriously, they are the number one reason I go to that. Those guys are totally awesome to ride with and teach us beginners so much it is great. Last year was great since the whole EMS race crew was there too. Anyhow just wondering if they’re gonna be there !- Mark

We just wanted to thank you for your time and patience during your downhill clinic this past Sunday at Jimmy Peak. I used those skills on our weekly XC ride last night. I was quicker and more confidant on the trails! What a difference your clinic made! Thanks again! – Erik, Deb, and Amy

Hey Simon,

I just wanted to thank you again for the technique tips but more so for recharging my motivation.  I’ve been struggling with a performance plateau this season – not quite knowing how to break through!  In applying your suggestions on the trail and bmx track alone I’ve noticed a big difference already–can’t wait to get back to the mountains!  Thank you so much!

Karen Eagan/Pro DH Racer

Dude, can’t say enough – SIMON AND BRIAN RULE !! I went to clinics with them both days. Their downhill lessons are just the BEST !!! ALWAYS ALWAYS have those guys there !! I learned so much from them and the EMS crew and I think everyone who was there thought the same. So many people were there trying dh! Seems like every one had a great time, hope you did as well. Best regards to you and Brian.  Have a good one! – Alex

I’m still so excited about yesterday.  That was one of the best sessions I’ve ever had w/ you.  I love how you integrated motocross experience.  There are so many parallels! –Jim

I hit the backside of a jump (or close to it) on Crank It Up.  I actually hit two in a row and was so stunned I think I stiffened up and didnt do it again.  I am SO STOKED!!!!  It felt really good.  I just gotta keep practicing – Kathy

I still use some of the tips you told me everyday and they help more than anyone I ever have had advice from- you’re a natural coach! I hope to get back over there soon but unfortunately I don’t live as close to Whistler or anywhere like that as you do which makes it hard (it sucks being on this side of the equator sometimes)!

Hope your well and if your ever keen to come to Australia, I’d love to show you some cool places and take you riding. Brad’s been riding really well since our session with you and has won the first two rounds of the NSW state series (the biggest state in Oz with over 7 million people) which is awesome. He’s looking fitter and stronger than ever and actually won the last round by about 10 seconds on only a 3 minute track over some stiff competition!-  Dave House / Pro DH /Australia

think that the most beneficial thing I saw/heard from Simon wasn’t about riding but about teaching.  He is SO positive, supportive, encouraging, and genuinely excited about riding and introducing others to riding at whatever level is right for them.  I see that same support and excitement in all your ride reports and watching Simon live it in this class made me very determined to bring it

-Glenn and Tony

something just hit me like a ton of bricks; one of the best parts of today’s class was watching the team work together. We had 15 instructors and every single one of them were 100% supportive of each other; they were helpful, encouraging and had fun learning together-I’m totally impressed; this was a fun class. In addition, the level of skill in the group ranged from novice to expert-it’s not to often you see such a diverse group pull together so quickly; I think this says a lot about Simon’s teaching ability.

Thanks again!

Bob

I don’t know if it’s the instruction or what, but I’m now climbing with the big boys and in some cases, beating them!  This has never happened before. -dave.

It was great meeting you on Friday. Thanks again for the lesson, it was very helpful. As a teacher I can tell you possess the ability to effectively transmit knowledge to your students—a rare and unique gift. –Chris

I just wanted to tell you again how amazing your lesson was!  Kathy actually stayed after we all left and did the big drop on the left and went over and did the first drop on the righthand line!  Amazing.  We are all headed back down tomorrow for some more accomplishments!

We are all now wanting to do a private cornering lesson with you.  How about May?  Is it too early to book something in May? – Julie

Simon, thanks for an awesome Clinic, talk about the value of relevant contextual learning, I really enjoyed being around such a highly motivated group of people; everything seemed to come together today – Robert

I left a little early and didn’t get a chance to say thanks for all the feedback.  You run a great camp and you provided me with information that really helped me feel more comfortable attacking the course.  Look forward to seeing you and your team again this weekend at the race.

Mike

Hi Simon.  I have to tell you my good news.  We are up in Whistler this weekend and I finally, after years of riding up here, went off the Middle GLC!!!  It was buttery smooth and felt so good.  I have you to thank, so THANK YOU!!!   : )  – Kathy

Hi,

Belated thanks for all you did to make the bike trip a success!  J.D. had a

fantastic time – the details are still trickling out.  Lots of work went

into it – we appreciate all that you did.

Robin Laurence

I already watched like a pro and it has already helped alot. i look forward to working with you – just got 9th at angel fire today – Josh

Thanks a lot for the great instruction.  I learned a lot and had so much fun–my favorite combination. – Fredrika

“Simon – Once again, thanks for the awesome lesson! Your teaching method is excellent. You provided totally personalized instruction according to what I wanted – and more importantly, what I needed. You carefully analyzed my existing skills and coached me on the points I needed to improve – and improve I did. The video feedback was a great way to show me what I was doing during each run, and how I had improved after applying what you taught me. And the new techniques you shared with me will be enormously useful for the kind of riding I like to do. Your coaching has definitely taken me to the next level! With my new-found confidence and ability, I will be entering some races soon. You helped me make huge breakthroughs in my riding!” – Brian
