This is the absolute best place to start with Fluidride, regardless of your level. Not only is it our most popular course, but it covers all the main cornerstones of mountain biking. Whether you’re newer to the sport or a seasoned pro, the teachings in this course will transform your riding.

For beginner and intermediate riders, you will develop sustainable body position and techniques, while learning the best drills to reinforce good habits.

For expert and pro riders, you will fine-tune your foundational skills to optimize our body movements, increase speed and traction, and build room for error.

This course is all about the intersection of bike and body, and developing proper movements to get the most out of your riding.

Trail Essentials covers:

  • Proper body position, and important features of the bike

  • Cornering Skills & Drills

    • One-Footed Turns

    • Turning in Both Directions

    • Linking Turns Through Slalom

    • Bermed Turns

    • Flatland Turns

  • Braking

  • Undulating Terrain

    • Passive pumping

  • Steep Descents

    • Body position demo

Who: Riders 16+

Prerequisites: None

Skill Level: All Levels

Duration: 1 day x 2.5 hours

Location: Duthie Hill Mountain Bike Park, Issaquah, WA.

Where to meet: The group will meet in the central clearing of Duthie Hill park, next to the large covered shelter. Plan on arriving early (we recommend 20-30 min) so you have time to park and pedal into the clearing.

After this course, we often recommend:

  • Trail Essentials – Practice what you learned, then come back to this course to refresh and refine these skills! Solidifying great foundations takes a lot of time and consistency.

  • Air 101 – the body position work we do in Trail Essentials feeds nicely into body position for jumping

  • Advanced Cornering – learn how to read and plan ahead for more difficult types of corners, including off-camber, tight or technical turns
