Welcome to Air 201!

Air 201 is for riders who are already comfortable and stable on basic drops, and are jumping 10’+ table top jumps consistently. We’ll warm up on some basic table tops, then move into jumping gaps on Gravy Train, which has gaps from 6-15’ in size. While Air 101 is not a prerequisite, we recommend it for anyone wanting to work on drops and featuring, and to get an in-depth breakdown of jumping.

Air 201 covers:

  • Progressing to gap jumps

  • Improving overall jumping technique

  • Reading jump lines and identifying tempo changes

Who: Riders 16+

Prerequisites:

  • Ability to jump table top jumps consistently

  • A willingness and desire to try jumping small doubles

Skill Level: Intermediate+ (Rider should be already cleanly jumping 10’ tabletop jumps)

Duration: 1 day x 2.5 hours

Location: Duthie Hill Mountain Bike Park, Issaquah, WA.

Where to meet: The group will meet in the central clearing of Duthie Hill park, next to the large covered shelter. Plan on arriving early (we recommend 20-30 min) so you have time to park and pedal into the clearing.

What’s next?

After this course, we often recommend:

  • Air 201 is great class to repeat until you’re very comfortable and consistent on Gravy Train and similar jump lines

  • Advanced Air – when you’re ready to ride bigger jump lines such as Semper Dirticus (black diamond jump run), and start adding movement and style in the air

Trail Skill Foundations 2-Day is intended for newer riders (or those returning to the sport) that want to slow down and focus on building solid foundations. Geared toward beginner and intermediate riders, this course allows riders to break down riding techniques, weed out bad habits, and take their time practicing and solidifying new skills.

This course includes body position, various cornering skills, undulating terrain, air skills, and descending. Studying the foundations for multiple skills in the same weekend can be especially effective, since so many of the new skills will amplify the progression of other skills.

Riders should bring an extra layer of clothing, and enough food to last through several hours of riding and learning.

Trail Skill Foundations 2-Day Covers:

  • Proper body position, and important features of the bike

  • Cornering Skills & Drills

    • One-Footed Turns

    • Turning in Both Directions

    • Linking Turns Through Slalom

    • Bermed Turns

    • Flatland Turns

  • Undulating Terrain

    • Passive pumping

  • Steep Descents

    • Body position demo

  • Jumping

  • Dropping

Note: Riders not wishing to work on air skills will have other options.
